What is Professional Teeth Whitening?
Our teeth naturally darken as we age, and our lifestyle choices can exacerbate the process. Smoking, as well as eating certain foods and drinking coffee, tea or red wine, can stain your teeth.
One of the best ways to reduce this staining is through professional teeth whitening. At Bayside Dental Clinic, we use a non-toxic, non-allergenic peroxide-based gel process to break apart the stains in your pores, giving you a brightened smile that you will be proud of.
As long as your teeth are healthy and strong, teeth whitening may be able to give you a brighter smile that you will be proud to show off. Our dentists will work with you to help ensure that you achieve the results you are aiming for.
Whiten Your Teeth Your Way
Our goal is to help you achieve a brighter smile in a way that fits your busy schedule. That's why we offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening options for you to choose from. Either way, you'll be on your way to your new smile.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
Our clinic offers in-office teeth whitening that can safely, efficiently, and effectively whiten your teeth. When you choose this option, a barrier will be applied around your gums to protect them. Then, a thin layer of whitening gel will be applied to each individual tooth. Upon successful completion of your treatment, your teeth should appear visibly whiter.
Personalized Take-Home Teeth Whitening
If you choose the take-home whitening option, we will start by taking impressions of your mouth to create your custom-fit whitening trays. Once you get these trays, you will take them home. When you're ready to whiten your teeth, simply apply the provided whitening gel to the trays and wear them according to the directions for use.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
Read the answers to our most frequently asked questions about teeth whitening at Bayside Dental.
-
How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
Whitening is not permanent and can be affected by beverages such as coffee and wine and certain foods, such as those that contain turmeric.
If you maintain a healthy oral hygiene routine, your teeth will stay whiter, longer. However, you may still find you want a touch up after a year or so.
-
What are the benefits of teeth whitening?
If you've been hiding your teeth because of discolouration or noticeable staining, professional teeth whitening may be a great option to rejuvenate the appearance of your smile.
A newly whitened smile can inspire a renewed commitment to oral hygiene, which can help maintain the results of your teeth whitening treatment. By focusing on your oral hygiene habits, you may find yourself brushing and flossing more often, clearing away bacteria that can positively impact your oral health.
-
Does insurance cover the cost of teeth whitening?
Dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of teeth whitening.
-
Does teeth whitening make teeth more sensitive?
One short-term side effect of teeth whitening may be sensitivity.
For most patients, this added sensitivity fades away a few days after a whitening session.
To minimize discomfort, we recommend that you use an anti-sensitivity toothpaste before treatment and for at least two weeks following your treatment.
-
Do teeth whitening products work on all stains?
Typically, brown and yellow-coloured stains respond best to teeth whitening treatments.
However, some stains do not respond to whitening treatments at all. If having a whiter smile is important to you, but your teeth have stains that aren't responding to whitening, your dentist may recommend other cosmetic treatments, such as dental crowns or veneers, that may be a better fit for you.
-
Does teeth whitening work on dental restorations?
Unfortunately, teeth whitening only works on natural teeth and will not work on dental restorations.
If crowns or veneers are part of your treatment plan, teeth whitening should occur before you receive dental restorations so that the colour of those restorations can be made to match your new smile.
-
Will teeth whitening damage my tooth enamel?
When used under the supervision of a qualified dentist, teeth whitening is unlikely to damage your dental enamel.
Always consult with your dentist to ensure you are using any teeth whitening products safely.
